Beautiful Fall, Beautiful Boys

(Though I might be a teensy bit biased about the boys.)

I used to love the heat, relish time spent in the sun. Then I had kids. I don't know the biology of it, but baking outside in the summer makes me pretty miserable nowadays. Thank God for this change of season! Most every afternoon we trek to a nearby church playground and hang out, and the extra fresh air has been so good for us.

I have bought Thomas some new clothes, but it makes me happy to see him in his big brother's hand-me-downs. Those torn knees were Will's first jeans, that shirt faded from many, many washings.

As for Will, he's turned into quite the dancer. When I inquired of his "unique" style, he merely explained that: "I shake my hiney. Just like Daddy." Why, of course--a father must impart love, wisdom, discipline, and hiney-shaking instruction, after all.

New Bed & Cute Cousins

After stalking craigslist for weeks, I came across this cool race car bed for Will. If I was a nearly 3 year old boy, this is exactly what I would want to sleep in... though Will decided after one restless night that he was not quite ready for the change. Back to the crib for now. And yes, he sleeps with all those animals. Sometimes I can't even see him in there amidst the six teddies, two elephants, various Disney creatures and other members of the menagerie.

My sister and precious Carson are visiting for the weekend. It's so fun for Thomas to have a buddy his age--and for once, he gets to knock another kid over and steal toys. Oh yeah, we're training them well around here.

I'm not sure what's going on with the tongue. He can't seem to keep it in his mouth at the moment. Kids are so weird.

You should see the back of my SUV--those three boys are crammed in tight, and Will just sits in the middle deploring his lack of personal space. I never thought I'd say it, and I shudder to admit it now--but I can see myself in a minivan down the road. Times sure have changed.

Post-church smiles

Thomas was already napping. Promise we hadn't forgotten him. (This time, at least. Right, oh siblings of mine? The eldest always gets all the attention...isn't that what you were thinking? So not true...)

I'm going to let Colin have his fun, but I also pledge to teach Will to chant "Country First" when his Daddy takes him on those beloved father/son outings to SuperWalmart.

Seeing as all you Republicans who read this blog surely believe in small government, then why should the editor of this blog try to censor the picture I just posted? What happened to free speech? In our family, we have a strong record of bi-partisanship, and as one of the "4G's," I felt our blog should reflect that.

Now in case you're wondering, I'm honestly an undecided voter. But I sure got the reaction I was hoping for when the blog editor saw this picture. Who knew it was so easy to post?

Now, back to the fawning over Sarah Palin...

TGIF

It's been a decently good week around here, but I can still get excited about the weekend, right? Colin will be home, it's not so unbearably hot anymore, and I'm sure we'll find something to do to entertain ourselves. The park/playground, Costco, Chipotle/Qdoba/Moe's, church, Brueggers. The usual. I asked Will, and he said he wanted to "go to mall...buy more toys...ride race car (you know, the 50 cent ride)..." I don't know about the "more toys" part, but what a delightful little son I have, requesting a trip to the mall. Though I personally would rather browse the Gap than jostle around in a race car--or helicopter, roller coaster, or hot dog truck for that matter. Another sweet Will anecdote: the other night as I was preparing to go out with friends, he told me, "Mommy, you look pretty. Go look in mirror." What a treasure I have in that little guy. Men out there--take notes from a 2 1/2 year old.

Here are my fellows this Friday morning...

OK, maybe this is a family blog. But until Colin starts posting, I'm the one who gets to support a candidate. And since he just urged me to get this image off the site, you can bet it's staying. I'm stubborn like that. Sorry, my not quite so conservative husband.
